So I've settled in to the Zamalek residence at room 430, it's about 20 metre square. I'm sharing it with this great girl named Alex, we get along just fine :0) See photos for more morevivid imagery.

Sushi in Cairo

So like I've said I was lounging in the lobby and I've started meeting people, for the most part egyptiens who worked and lived in Zamalek and were students at AUC. I got to know a lot about different aspects of this place; where to go and that stuff... In the end I was invited to  eat sushi with them and it was okey actually(the fish I mean). Later on I was also invited to go clubbing, since Cairo apparently lives mostly by night and especially during Ramadan, but at that point I was completly exhaust so I went to bed... sometimes I'm such a party pooper... :0P

Arriving

So today I got up at 04.30 “blææææhhh”!!! I was at Gardermoen at 05.47 :0P... Of course there was a problem with my ticket, I had change the flight date from the 11 aug to the 27 aug so that meant trouble, they even wanted me to pay twice for the darn thing... In the end I did get onboard the plane, but in arriving in Vienna I had to check in again, just me thou’ my luggage was sent directly to Cairo?? ?!

The flight itself, from Vienna to Cairo was great. I had clear sky all the way through, and we passed Lake Balaton, Skopje and southern Greece so there were lots to see.

Arriving in Cairo the whole “passing customs and all the scary military guards” was surprisingly easy, I went straight through... Afterwards there was some waiting, for a student that never showed up, for the pick-up from AUC. Then we got stuck in traffic :0P

Cairo is a Huuuuuge city it seems to have no limits, but driving through you’ll have a wide range of sceneries; palm trees, huge mosques, beautiful buildings just being finished and completely deteriorated houses/shacks...

Driving in Cairo is quite an experience every car has at least 10 scratches or bumps; I think the average was about 20... There are no car lanes, you drive where you want to drive; three-lanes turn into four-lanes, a u-turn is always possible and if you feel like driving diagonal it’s cool! And all comes with tonnes of horn honking...

Right now I’m in the Zamalek student residence, not being allowed to go to my room before midnight :0P, I’m lounging in the lobby meeting the local security guards and American employees... Tired now...

Preparations

So what to say, I'm currently looking at 4 months(my shortest semester ever!) in Cairo. In the beginning the idea was to stay there the whole last year(of my masters). But because I have a boyfriend, who I like to see more than every other 4 months, are we just looking at the fall semester at AUC(the American university of Cairo).

Currently it's been a bit of a mess in relations with pre-aproval, from NTNU(my current uni) and my status at AUC, but hopefully this will be resolved sooner or later, preferably sooner... Seeing that I would like to finish this year (I find 5 years of school is more than enought).

I have packed most of my suitcase today, (I've found it difficult to just pack 20kg! for four months), so thats done at least. Leaving at 5 in the morning on Thursday so to pack in the last minut is not really an option...

Blogg

So in the last couple of days I've had a serious debate with myself about which language I would use in my blog; if I use norwegian only my compatriots would understand me, in using french only a handful of my friends, and my boyfriend would understand me(I can't write french anyways so no lost there..) and so we settel with "drum roll": ENGLISH!
